Our Jaynes Ancestors
The attached pages contain research done by Phillip Bedient, who died in 2023 at the age of 100. Phil was the great grandson of James Bedient of Hornby NY.
Phil proved himself over decades to be to be a careful and thorough researcher. Having done a remarkably extensive search at libraries, courthouses and other repositories for Jaynes records (particularly birth and marriage), he satisfied himself that only Shadrach Jayne could be Jesse Jaynes’ father. He said: I do not have a source that lists the children of our Shadrach. That is what I am trying to construct. The years of birth of my constructed list are given in my notes in each case. All of these births were in Connecticut. There is only one Jaynes that I can find to fit all of these births. SHADRACH!
Ancestry.com’s ThruLines provides some support for this conclusion, based on DNA. These ancestors are too far back from us to give definitive answers from DNA.
Phil’s research allows us to take the family back another three generations.
The attached are from Phil Bedient:
- The Jaynes history back to William, the first in this Jaynes line to come to America. (There are other Jaynes lines.)

You will find many trees that take William Jayne’s history back to the reign of Henry II of England. Disregard them. See here for the explanation why:
